Betcorp stops all US activity -- Betcorp has suspended all US operations with immediate effect in response to the enactment of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in the US. The company said it had been unable to sell its US-facing operations prior to the act coming into force because it had not been able to gain shareholder approval for such a transaction. It said it was in ongoing discussions with a number parties interested in buying the group’s gaming operations and infrastructure. However, there was no certainty those discussions would result in a sale, which would have to be approved by the Financial Services Regulatory Commission in Antigua. Any new owner would also have to assume full liability for all customer deposits and staff contracts. In the meantime, all withdrawals from US residents have been put on hold, so that it could “ensure an orderly return of funds to themâ€, the company said. Costs have been cut, including staff reductions of approximately a third of Betcorp’s workforce and a complete of its US-facing marketing activities. |

Betcorp Q1 results almost double year on year -- US-focused sports-betting operator Betcorp first quarter results showed sports-betting margins nearly doubling to 8.33% compared with 4.41% over the same period last year. The company, which operates the BetWWTS brand among others, also showed total betting turnover rising 58% to US$287m compared with US$181m in 2005, with gross revenue rising 113% to US$14.9m compared with US$7m last year. Casino revenues also grew, up 138% to US$3.1m, while poker rake rose to US$2.1m. The company said trading momentum from 2005 had continued into this year, while a set of favourable results across all major sports had helped contribute to the rise in margin. Colin Walker, chief executive, said: "The group has moved to a new level of profitability and our admission to the has increased investor awareness of the group's future potential." Betcorp -parent company of BetWWTS.com- considers listing on UK market--Internet gaming firm Betcorp is considering a listing on the London Stock Exchange after booking a half-year net profit of $2.4 million. The result for the first half of 2005 compared to loss of a $2.7 million ($US2.0 million) in the prior corresponding period. Betcorp said the result was comfortably ahead of internal forecasts and reflected a re-positioning strategy undertaken over the past year. Sinsational is a North American focused online sportsbook and casino, established in 1999, which generated gross profit of USD $7 million on a combined online casino and sportsbook turnover of just over USD $200 million in the 2004 financial year. This purchase by Betcorp, mother company of BetWWTS.com, confirms that Cybersportsbook.com is indeed a viable business model that offers sound strengths such as their popular proprietary software -which offers players in game live betting possibilities-, a data base nearing the 10,000 active recreational customers and a strong brand. Carruthers (BOS) to be charged under RICO -- Chief executive of BetonSports David Carruthers will be appearing in court at the Federal Court House in Fort Worth, Texas, at 2pm US Central time according to a spokesperson at the FBI. Carruthers was detained late on Sunday afternoon at Dallas airport by the US authorities while en route from the UK to Costa Rica. He was detained by members of the FBI and the Inland Revenue Service (IRS) at around 4pm local time with a warrant for his arrest. He is believed to have spent a night in Tarrant county jail. According to sources, Carruthers will be charged under the federal racketeering statutes or RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations Act). The Federal warrant has been issued out of state with a sealed indictment. The hearing will determine his rights and the possible bail conditions. Sources indicate he is unlikely to be granted bail. The hearing will also determine which Federal Correctional Institute he will be sent to. His wife Carol Carruthers was travelling with him but was released immediately. He would have spent a night in the local county jail. |

Costa Rica-based BoS has signed a deal with software firm RealTime Gaming, which also powers Bodog’s casino, to relaunch its casino in October.
