Rex Grossman's Struggles Continue
The last time the Bears played on MNF QB Rex Grossman had one of the worst games of his career -- and he still hasn't recovered from it. As well, MNF has not been kind to Chicago where they are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Monday games.
Since that contest, Grossman has passed for 1,181 yards with eight TDs and 14 picks in seven games, and the Bears have the worst passing offense in the league over that span.
Chicago (10-2 SU & 8-4 ATS) became the first team in the NFL to clinch a playoff berth by defeating Minnesota 23-13 last Sunday to win its second straight NFC North Division title, but Grossman had another poor performance. His QB rating was a microscopic 1.3. He completed only 6 of 19 passes for 34 yards and threw three more interceptions -- giving him 17 for the season and 14 in the last seven games.
The Bears are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing less than 15 points in their previous game and they now face the St. Louis Rams (5-7 SU & 6-6 ATS) who have a decent passing defense that gives up a respectable 188.4 ypg. As well, Chicago has trouble cashing in consecutive games as they're 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win.
After starting the year 4-1 SU, St. Louis has lost six of seven, but coach Scott Linehan said it's far too early to give up on the season.
St. Louis QB Marc Bulger threw a season-high three interceptions in the Rams' 30-20 home loss to Arizona last Sunday, and has been susceptible to turning the ball over lately. Heading into MNF it's important to note: The Rams are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a SU loss.
"I've made a hundred mistakes and I want to reiterate, I'm not perfect," Bulger said. "But I care, and there's definitely more than one person I think in this locker room that could not care less. But they get their paycheck on Monday and it's OK."
Bulger had 13 TDs and one interception in the first eight games of the season, but has three TDs and six interceptions in the last four contests.
St. Louis has won its last five Monday night games SU at the Edward Jones Dome, including a 21-16 win over Chicago on Nov. 18, 2002. The Rams have won their last four games against the Bears.
Notable Game Trends:
- Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. NFC.
- Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 night games.
